Identity design for a project that matters

It’s always a pleasure being called to give shape to valuable projects.
At the beginning of March, before all the Covid-19 madness and lockdown started, I met the managers of the Mi-WOW project.

About Mi-WOW

Migrant Women Opportunities for Work (Mi-WOW) is a New Communities Partnership (NCP) project, coordinated and run by migrant women and funded by the Department of Justice and Equality, Ireland’s European Structural and Investment Funds Programme and the European Social Fund programme.

Mi-WOW is looking to explore, support and overcome specific barriers that Migrant Women face in Ireland during their job-seeking journey. Mi-WOW is designed to empower Migrant Women to reach their potential, rebuilding their confidence and upgrading their skills to facilitate their access to the labour market and/or career progression linked to their professional goals.
Additionally, Mi-WOW aims to provide support and critical thinking space to enterprises, creating and developing inclusive and equal routes for Migrant Women to participate in any space of the Irish labour market.

My work

On this occasion, I was given a draft of the logo, created by the project managers and I just rendered it in a professional way, preparing all the possible types of files for the client.

Then, from the two colours chosen, I’ve created the colour palette and the whole mood board, with the colour code, the font, and some image references to give the client the feel of the visual for their publicity material.

My selection of photos stock was aimed to represent the inclusivity and diversity of Mi-WOW’s target.

For the launch of the project, the Mi-WOW team asked me to produce a poster, a tri-fold flyer and a roll-up banner.
We started with the banner for which I proposed two versions: one with a photographic image and one with an illustration, both reflecting the colour palette just created.

As the illustration was considered more inclusive, we went for it, but changed the colours to match the NCP logo, rather than the Mi-WOW’s.
The illustration was bought from a resources’ database and adapted to the client’s needs.

To complete the range of marketing material, I’ve created a poster reflecting the same design of the banner and the trifold flyer, whose cover repeats, once again, the banner, and the rest of the pages follow the same style.
The flyers were then translated into 8 different languages that I accommodated into the same layout.

The part I enjoyed the most creating was the design identity for the official Information Guide of Mi-Wow and also the Report of the research behind the project. The former will circulate online as a guide for migrant women recently relocated in Ireland, with practical information about understanding employment rules, finding a job and childcare. You can see a couple of pages below and the whole booklet here.
The latter is a document that the project managers had presented to their partners and funders.
